Using cover - When the halo (a solid colored circle) under your character turns blue, you are safe from enemy fire. Time your attacks accordingly to avoid being hurt. Use walls of sandbags to take cover and avoid enemy fire - your soldier will automatically duck as he nears a wall. Paratroop reinforcements - When stuck in a difficult area, use the flare weapon to call in paratroop reinforcements. Press the "ARMS" softkey to cycle through weapons options until a parachute icon appears in the Heads-Up-Display (HUD). Press "OK" to launch. Strategically landing extra soldiers can turn a battle in your favor. Barrels - You can blow up barrels and cause damage to anyone nearby. If you encounter enemies that are tough to defeat, try blowing them up with a barrel-bomb. Shoot a barrel to activate it, or lob a grenade at one to trigger an explosion. Reloading main rifle - Your main weapon has unlimited ammo. Your ammo supply is indicated in the HUD at the top of the screen. The supply will be automatically replenished after all bullets have been fired, or, if you're close to empty, simply pause your character for a few seconds, and the weapon will reload. It's best to have a full clip before each enemy engagement. If you're running low on bullets, either fire until empty or pause your character. Tapping a direction - If you tap a direction (Up/2, Right/6, Down/8, or Left/4) when there are multiple enemies on the screen, you can cycle between the enemy soldiers to target each of them in turn. Use this to 'wound' one enemy and then move on to another. By effectively using this technique, you can limit the enemy's ability to fire back at you. Determining where to guide your player - At various times during each level, the current objective is indicated by graphically displaying the terrain you must cross in order to complete an objective, and displaying where the objective lies in the playing field. These guides are useful to decide upon how and where to move your soldier. Pickups - Pickups that contain weapons and supplies are located throughout each level, either hidden in crates, or guarded by enemy soldiers. To pick up these items, either destroy the crates, or rifle butt the enemy soldier when he's wounded. Grenades - Press the "ARMS" softkey to cycle through weapons option. A grenade graphic will display on the HUD. A target will appear a fixed distance from your soldier, indicating where the grenade will land. Move the soldier to adjust where the grenade will land, and press "OK" or "5" to throw it. The grenade will explode automatically as soon as it hits the ground. Be careful where you throw it, you can damage yourself and your allies! Explosives - When you reach an objective that needs to be destroyed (such as an ammo cache or generator), a target will appear on that object as you approach it. Press fire ("OK" or "5") to throw an explosive charge on the object, and then run for cover. If you stand too close, you'll feel the effects of the blast! How do I progress through the levels? You must successfully complete the previous level in order to gain access to the next one. How is my score determined? Your score is determined by the damage taken by your player character, and the damage your soldier inflicts on the enemies. How do I access the Help section? Highlight "Help" in the menu and press ''OK'' to access the Help section. Three help menu selections give detailed information about the game: - How To Play: Explains how to play the game.
- Controls: Gives a breakdown of the game's controls.
- Weapons: Provides a detailed description of each weapon available to you in the game.
How do I save? Game progress is saved automatically at checkpoints on each level. Once you reach a checkpoint, you will restart at that point if you die during the mission, If you exit a mission in progress at any time, you will have to restart it on your next game session (but previously unlocked missions will still be accessible). How do I view my statistics? A Mission Complete! Screen which shows your statistics will be displayed after each level. You can view items like damage given/taken, level completion time, kills, crates found, and mission score. You can also see you score and crates found on the Mission Select screen that appears prior to starting a level.
