Madden NFL 07 How to Play
SETTING UP YOUR GAME
After the game loads, you will be at the Main Menu screen. You can highlight menu options by using the Up / Down directions on the D-pad. To choose an option, highlight it and press the 'OK' key or the "Select" soft key. There are five to six options on this screen:

Resume Game - Highlight this option and press 'OK' to re-start your previously saved game.

New Game - Highlight this option and press 'OK' to open the Game Setup screen to select to play a single game, 1, 7 or 16 game season, quarter length of 3, 5 or 7 minutes, and to pick your team and opponent (opponent is only selected for a single game match-up).

Play Now - Highlight this option and press 'OK' to start a new game between two randomly chosen teams.

Help & Stats - Highlight this option and press 'OK' to open the Help & Stats menu where you can access: user stats, the roster of your selected team, game rules and game tips.

Options - Highlight this option and press 'OK' to open the Options menu to adjust sound and vibration settings or reset user stats.

About - Highlight this option and press 'OK' to read: legal, credits and customer support information.
PLAY NOW
To quickly start a game from the Main Menu highlight and select "Play Now". A Game Match-up screen opens to show the user's team (listed on top) and his opponent. From the Game Match-up press the "Select" soft key to open the Controls Tutorial screen. From here, press the "Play" soft key to open the game screen (it may take a few seconds for the game screen to load).
GAME SET-UP
To customize a single game or season, from the Main Menu highlight and select "New Game". There are two screens of options for a new game. The first screen is to choose the season and quarter length. The next screen is to pick the teams. Press the "Play" soft key or 'OK' key to proceed with the following settings for these displayed options to move on to the next screen. If you would like to change your options you can press the 'Back; soft key or the 'CLR' key to go back a screen.

Season - Here you can choose from a single (Season: 1), 7, or 16 game season. The appropriate playoff length appears below the option stating the number off playoff games including the Super Bowl. There are no Playoffs for the single game option.

Quarter Length - Choose to play either a 3, 5 and 7-minute quarter. There are four quarters in a game. This is also how long overtime will be in the event of a tie.

Team - Displays the name of the team the user will play with. Press D-left/right or the OK key to cycle through the 32 different NFL teams. Ratings are displayed based on how good your running, passing, run defense and pass defense are. Three is the highest and one is the lowest rating.

Opponent - Displays the name of the user's opponent in a single game match-up. If the user is playing a 1, 7 or 16-game season, this field displays "Season" as the opponent will be chosen from the season schedule. Press D-left/right or the OK key to cycle through the 32 different NFL teams.
COIN TOSS
After choosing your game setup, the coin toss will decide who will have the choice of kicking or receiving. Press the 'OK' to stop the coin. Tails you win, heads the opponent wins. If you win the coin toss, you will have the option to either kick to the opposing team, or receive the ball and have the first shot at scoring points. Use the D-pad to make your selection, and press the "Play" soft key when you are ready to start the game!
OPENING KICK-OFF
After the game is loaded you or the opposing team will kick the ball off. Select a formation by using the D-pad left or right and press 'OK' or '5' to select a play. After you have selected your formation, to kick the ball press the 'OK' or '5' key to start the kick meter direction moving left to right, then 'OK' or '5' again to stop the meter. Once the kick meter direction is set, the kick distance power meter will become active. Press 'OK or 5' for optimal kicking distance. Aligning the distance marker at the top to the meter will execute maximum kicking distance. After you have kicked the ball, use the number keys or D-pad to move your player up the field. If you are receiving, Press the 'OK' or '5' key while running to juke the opposing players.
Note: kicking meter distance and direction will vary in speed and distance based on kicker's attributes.
CHOOSE A PLAY
A Playbook screen is open prior to each play. Press D-up/down to scroll through the different play categories for offense or defense: Run, Short Pass, Long Pass and Special. Within each category, press D-left/right to scroll through the different plays. Press OK/5 to select a play formation and open the game screen.
HOW TO PLAY OFFENSE
Press OK/5 key to hike the ball. RUN using the D-pad or number keys and juke or fake-out opposing players by pressing the OK/5 key while running. Hand-offs to the Running Back are automatically done after the ball is hiked. The ball carrier has a disc beneath him that indicates his status based on color:

Green (free from tackle)

Yellow (almost tackled)

Red (being tackled)
PASS by pressing the receiver shortcut key (*, #, 0, 5 or OK) or press the OK/5 key to automatically pass to your primary receiver. Judge if a receiver is open by the color of their shortcut symbol as:

Open (green)
-
Partially covered (yellow)
-
Covered (red)
The quality of a pass is indicated by the halo color around the ball as:

Good (green) will catch.
-
Marginal (yellow) will catch frequently.
-
Bad (red) will result in possible interception.
HOW TO PLAY DEFENSE
Before ball is hiked, press '*' key to change which player you are controlling. Move using the D-pad or number keys and press OK/5 key to leap or dive tackle. Pressing OK/5 to tackle will execute POWER tackling which will cause the ball carrier to fumble more frequently. Defender will also tackle ball carrier automatically when within close proximity.

To punt, select the offensive play category "Special" and the play "Punt". After you have selected your formation, to punt the ball, press the 'OK' or '5' key to start the kick meter direction moving left to right, then 'OK' or '5' again to stop the meter. Once the kick meter direction is set, the kick distance power meter will become active. Press 'OK or 5' for optimal kicking distance. Aligning the distance marker at the top to the meter will execute maximum kicking distance. After you have kicked the ball, use the number keys or D-pad to move your player up the field. HOW TO KICK A FIELD GOAL
To kick a field goal, select the offensive play category "Special" and the play "Field Goal or PAT". The game screen will display your team in place-kick formation with a meter on the top of the screen. . After you have selected your formation, to kick the ball press the 'OK' or '5' key to start the kick meter direction moving left to right, then 'OK' or 5' again to stop the meter. Once the kick meter direction is set, the kick distance power meter will become active. Press 'OK or 5' for optimal kicking distance. Aligning the distance marker at the top to the meter will execute maximum kicking distance. After you have kicked the ball, use the number keys or D-pad to move your player up the field. If you are receiving, Press the 'OK' or '5' key while running to juke the opposing players.

EXTRA POINT
After scoring a touchdown you have the option to kick an extra point or go for a two-point conversion. Select any offensive play to attempt a two-point conversion and select "Special>Field Goal or PAT" to kick an extra point (AKA Point-After Touchdown (PAT).
FUMBLES
If a ball is fumbled, a pop-up will display "Fumble" on the screen. If you pick it up continue running forward on offense. If you opponent picks it up, tackle the ball carrier.
INTERCEPTIONS
If a pass is intercepted a pop-up will display "Interception" on the screen. If you catch it, run towards your own endzone. If your opponent intercepts you, tackle him.
PAUSE & RESUME:
To pause the game, press CLR from the game screen to open the Main Menu. Resume the paused game by highlighting and selecting "Resume". A paused game or game that is exited from the Main Menu will resume at the end of the last completed play.
TOUCHBACK & SAFETY:
If you catch the ball in the endzone on a kick-off or punt, wait to be tackled and you will be granted a "Touchback". However, if you receive the ball outside your endzone then run into the endzone and get tackled, your opponent will be awarded a safety (2pts).
USER STATS:
User stats are updated after the completion of each game. This tracks your record for games completed.
