Madden NFL 08 Tips & Hints

  • Juking and Breaking Tackles - When running with the ball on offense, check the ball carrier's status disc color. If it's green, keep running ahead. When it's yellow or red, press the OK/5 key to juke an opposing player who is about to tackle you. Sometimes opposing players will grab you, but not complete their tackle. As the opposing player holds you, press OK/5 key as you continue to hold D-Up to run forward and you might be able to break their tackle.

  • QB Scramble - When ready to scramble from pocket on pass plays, press d-pad diagonal left-right or numbers (1 or 3) to move QB from pass idle animation into QB scramble run.

  • QB Scramble During FVP - With FVP activated, press 'right soft key' to deactivate FVP. This will allow the QB to scramble while still in the pocket.

  • Running Game - After pressing OK/5 to hike the ball, the CPU AI will execute the entire play until user input is detected from d-pad. CPU AI assistance will run and perform special moves to gain positive yards if the user is not familiar the controls. This is another great way to watch the action unfold until you are familiar with all controls.

  • Passing Game - After pressing OK/5 to hike the ball, the CPU AI will execute the play by moving the QB around in the pocket, but will never throw to any receiver until user decides to pass. Some QBs under CPU AI assistance will scramble from the pocket based on their real life attribute.

  • Pass Completion - When eligible receiver icon is green, press his icon symbol to pass immediately because icon color can change from green to red quickly. This will improve your completion chances. To complete more passes and minimize interceptions, throw to receivers running pass routes to the sideline.

  • Power Tackling - Pressing OK/5 when close to defender will execute power tackling to force fumbles. Tackler must tackle ball carrier from an angle of about 22-45 degrees to cause fumbles.

  • Tackling - First chase after the opposing player until you get close enough that his status disc is yellow or red, then press OK/5 key to dive tackle. If you do not dive tackle, you opponent may break free from your grasp and keep on running, so be prepared to continue chasing him down.

  • Recovering Fumbles - After a ball is fumbled, quickly press the "*" key to select your player nearest to the loose ball to quickly recover the fumble.

  • Playing Defense - Before the ball is snapped, press the '* or right soft' key to change to a defensive player of your choice. As you toggle through the players the ball will not be snapped (it will wait till your toggling has stopped). The name of your selected player will display on screen as you toggle from one player to the next.

  • Quick Snap - On offense or defense, as soon as you press the OK/5 key, the ball will be snapped to begin the play.

  • Vibration Occurrence - Vibration during play will occur from the following circumstances.
    1. On touchdowns.
    2. On interceptions.
    3. On fumbles.
    4. On QB sacks.
    5. On BIG HITS on pass plays to knock the ball loose.

  • Special Move Execution - Pressing OK/5 will allow the ball carrier to execute various special moves. These moves are executed based on player size, speed and real NFL running style of ball carrier.
    1. spin moves
    2. hurdle
    3. stiffarm
    4. shoulder charge
    5. juke moves
    6. breaking tackles.
