The Sims 2 Pets How to Play

Highlight The Sims™ 2 Pets in your games menu. Once highlighted, press "OK" to start the game. You will be asked if you would like to play the game with sound. Select "yes" or "no" using the right or left soft keys. After one splash screen, you will be asked to press "OK" to bring up the "Main Menu."

Main Menu

How to Start the Game

Select "New Game" from the Main Menu. You are prompted to create a human Sim with these options:

  1. Gender: Male or Female
  2. Skin Tone: 4 options
  3. Hair Style: 4 options
  4. Hair Color: 4 options
  5. Name: Limited to 8 characters
After entering your Sim's name, you are prompted to choose a puppy. Select from the following options:
  1. Breeds: Labrador, Chihuahua, Pug, Mutt, Whippet (An ultimate "Robot Breed" dog can be unlocked by guiding your Sim to the top of the career ladder.)
  2. Coat Color: 3 options per breed
  3. Name: Limited to 8 characters
Your puppy will need to be cared for. You will have to feed, bathe, play with and care for your pet. Your pet has 5 basic needs, or "motives:"
Hunger
Bladder
Energy
Fun
Hygiene

The puppy will let you know if it needs anything. There is an icon for each motive and a colored bar to help you keep track of your pet's needs.

You can train your puppy to do tricks, and to do (or not to do) some certain actions. You can also buy supplies at the store and the shopkeeper will provide advice.

If "Hints" are toggled "ON" in the Options menu, several introductory hints will be displayed which explain gameplay basics - how to call your pet and how to provide for its basic needs like sleep, food, play and hygiene. For more information, go to the "Help" menu, and familiarize yourself with the ways to go to the pet store, how to select objects, teach tricks, play fetch, go to sleep and bed.

Controls

Pressing LEFT or RIGHT on the D-pad will cycle between your pet and the different objects in the room. Press "OK" to see a list of options related to that object, or to call your Pet.

While in-game, press the left soft key to bring up the "Pause Menu." From here you can "Resume Game," select "Options," select "Help," or quit to the "Main Menu."

Press the right soft key while in-game to bring up the "Go-To" menu. Here you find the "Pet Store," as well as detailed information on the status of your Sim and dog. You can monitor your food inventory, your Sim's job title, salary and earnings, your pet's tricks, your goals, and the status of your pet's basic needs.
