SCRABBLE Blast How to Play

Starting the game

First, highlight the "SCRABBLE Blast" icon in the game menu on your phone. Once the game is highlighted, press 'Select' (OK) to start the game. After the splash screen sequence, the main menu of SCRABBLE Blast would appear.

Main Menu

Play: Allows you to start a new game of SCRABBLE Blast (or continue a game in progress) from three different game modes: One Bag, Puzzle, or Action.

One Bag: In One Bag, you get 100 tiles -- no clocks, just 100 tiles to make into amazing words. When tiles in a column run out, any columns to the right will shift to the left. When there are no more words to make, the game will end and your one bag bonus will be tallied based on the number of remaining tiles you have on the board. Eliminate all of the tiles on the board to receive a bonus!

Puzzle: In Puzzle, you play through a number of different levels; in each, you must score 10 words to make it to the next. There is a bar at the bottom of the tile rack that indicates your progress through the level. Clocks drop on every turn. If a clock reaches the bottom, it will explode and your game will be over. Each clock has a number indicating the shortest word you must make over it to explode it. For example, if you have a clock with a "4" on it, you need a word of four letters or more.

Action: In Action, clocks fall faster and faster as the game goes on. The clocks have no numbers on them; any legal word made over a clock will explode it. There are levels in Action Mode; in each, you must score 10 words to make it to the next. . There is a bar at the bottom of the tile rack that indicates your progress through the level. As the level increases, so does the speed that the clocks fall.

High Scores: Access "My Stats" and "Top Ten." Here you can track your best game and other progress in SCRABBLE Blast!

Option: Access audio, vibration and hint toggles from this menu. You can reset your stats and top ten lists from this menu as well.

Help: Detailed description of gameplay, rules, game types, controls, and scoring can be found in this section.

About: Contains game credits, legal disclaimers and customer support information.

How to Play

Use D-Pad or number keys to connect letter tiles and make words. When you reach the last letter of the word, you can either double select that letter again or press "Submit" to submit the word. To deselect a tile either click on the previous letter chosen or press the "#" key. If the word is a legal two to seven-letter word, the tiles will disappear, you will receive a word score, and new tiles will fall from the top of the screen. Proper nouns like the names of people and places are not accepted. Only words in the Official SCRABBLE Dictionary are accepted. Each letter tile in the word must touch the next one but can connect in any manner: forward, backward, up, down, or even diagonal.

Tiles

The tile distribution is taken from a standard SCRABBLE bag. Blanks are included in the game, but random letters are placed on them as they appear.

Points

Points for each word scored are awarded based on the following factors:

Tile Value: The number values on the tiles.

Bonus Squares: The bonus squares on which the tiles sit. If you combine word-bonus squares, they will add up. So if you make a word that sits on a DOUBLE WORD and a TRIPLE WORD, it will add up to six times the value of the word!

Length-of-Word Bonus: The Length-of-Word Bonus is as follows: 10 extra points for a four-letter word, 20 for a five-letter word, 30 for a six-letter word, and 50 for a seven-letter word! However, you will find that the length of a word is not all that matters. If you are able to get some key bonus tiles, in some key places, a small word like "QUIZ" can be very valuable, and "QUIZZES" much more so!

High Scores

Statistics are kept for each game mode: number of games played, average score, the highest level achieved, the highest scoring word (and its score), and the number of words made in last (or current) game. The Top Ten list scores for each game mode can also be accessed from the "High Scores" menu.

Give up?

Can't figure out how to make any more words? SCRABBLE Blast knows when you've exhausted all possible combinations. If you still can't figure out any words, select "Give Up?" in the pause menu to forfeit your game prematurely and cash in your points.
