YAHTZEE Deluxe How to Play

How to play?
Once you are in the game main menu, you can highlight menu options by using the Up / Down directions on the direction pad. To access an option, highlight it and press the ''Select'' key. There are five options on this screen:

Highlight the "New Game" option and press ''Select'' to access the game selection menu. From there, you use the left/right arrows to choose the game mode and set the number of players. First, choose to play either Classic, Rainbow or Duplicate by highlighting the game and choosing ''Select''. Then, you can choose the number of players, computer opponents and difficulty level by selecting the appropriate options and pressing "Select."

What game options are available?
Six options are available: you can change the options by pressing the Left/Right on the direction pad:

  • Music - Turn background music on or off.
  • Sound F/X - Turn sound effects and vibration on or off.
  • Animation - Turn in-game animations on or off.
  • Vibration - Turn game vibration on or off.
  • Advice - Turn scoring advice on or off.
  • Tutorial - Turn tutorial screens on or off.
After setting the options, press "Accept" to return to the Main menu.

What are the basic rules?
The basic rules of Yahtzee Deluxe are simple. For each turn, you roll 5 dice up to three times. After each roll, you can choose to keep any number of those dice and then re-roll the remaining dice. Your goal is to create high-scoring patterns of dice.

When you have the dice you want, you assign those dice to a scoring category. You can only choose each category once. You must choose a category after three rolls. If your dice do not match the scoring category you've chosen, you receive a score of zero in that category.

When playing against a computer opponent, press the right softkey after each step in the turn to advance the turn.

After the game is finished, the Score screen appears, listing the scores in each category.

What are the scoring categories?
There are two types of scoring categories in Yahtzee Deluxe: Upper and Lower.

Upper Categories
There are six Upper Categories: 1 to 6. All the dice matching the value of the scoring category are added to that category.

For example, placing three 3s in the 3s category scores 9 points (3x3=9). Placing four 5s in the 5s category scores 20 points (4x5=20).

Lower Categories
There are seven Lower Categories.
  • Three of a Kind - At least 3 dice with the same value. Scores the sum of the roll.
  • Four of a Kind - At least 4 dice with the same value. Scores the sum of the roll.
  • Full House - A pair of matching dice and a three of a kind. Scores 25 points.
  • Small Straight - At least 4 dice with consecutive values (i.e., 1-2-3-4, 2-3-4-5, or 3-4-5-6). Scores 30 points.
  • Large Straight - All five dice display consecutive values (i.e., 1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6). Scores 40 points.
  • Yahtzee - All five dice have the same value. Scores 50 points.
  • Chance - Any set of dice that doesn't fit in any category. Scores the sum of the roll.
Bonuses
There are three types of bonuses you can earn in Yahtzee Deluxe:
  • Upper Score Bonus: If the total of all your Upper Scores is 63 or higher, you earn a 35 point bonus.
  • Yahtzee Bonus: When the Yahtzee category is closed with a score of 50, you receive 100 bonus points, plus the corresponding category points, for each subsequent Yahtzee.
  • Yahtzee as a Joker: If you roll a Yahtzee and the appropriate upper category and the Yahtzee category are closed, you can score the Small Straight, Large Straight or Full House, and receive the corresponding category points.
