How to Play:
You control a team of 3 skaters and 1 goalie. There are 3 periods in each game. Overtime is sudden-death.

Games modes:
JAMDAT SPORTS' NHL® Hockey '05 offers three game modes:

Exhibition:
Select your teams, set the Game Options, and then play a quick game.

Playoff:
Play for the Stanley Cup! Choose the number of playoff teams and set the length of each playoff round. The Playoff Tree displays playoff progress.

Season:
Play a full season and the playoffs. Choose the number of games in the regular season, and the number of games for each playoff round. The Schedule lists upcoming games and past scores. Review Standings to see team rankings.

Ice action:
Skating - Use the number pad (4, 5, 6, 7, 9, *, 0, and #) to move the skater. Hold a key down to increase speed. Skaters may continue to skate for a while after the button is released.

Passing - There are two kinds of passes: Quick Pass or Directional Pass. Press 2 to make a Quick Pass to the teammate closest to the opponent's net. Press D-PAD LEFT to pass to red teammate. Press D-PAD RIGHT to pass to blue teammate.

Press the same D-PAD direction twice to make a Give-and-Go pass. The puck goes back to the original passer.

Shooting - Press 8, D-PAD Select or Softkey 2 to shoot the puck at the opponent's net. Press the Shoot button quickly to make a Wristshot. This is the most accurate shot.

Press and hold the Shoot button to make a Slapshot. The longer you hold the Shoot button, the harder your shot. The harder the shot, the less accurate it will be.

Press and hold the Shoot button until the meter is in the red zone to make a Super-Slapshot.

Checking - Press a Skate button twice to check a skater in that direction. You can only check the skater with the puck.

Stealing - Skate over a free puck to take control of the puck.

Goalies - The goalie automatically moves to face the puck. When goalies stop the puck, they either Hold or Pass.

Hold - The goalie keeps the puck. A Face-Off occurs.

Pass - The goalie passes the puck to a teammate. Press D-PAD LEFT, D-PAD RIGHT, or 2 (active) to pass the puck.

Hockey rules:
Face-Off - Teams face off for control of the puck after each stoppage of play.

Icing - When a free puck crosses 2 red lines, teams have a face-off.

Options

These are the options that you can modify within the game:

Graphic Effects: Radar and teammate colors.

Sound Effects: Game sounds and background music.

Length of Period: 1, 2, or 3 minute periods.

Icing: Enforce Icing rule.
